This position is the subject matter expert for stamping automation. A broad knowledge of stamping processes and tool design will be utilized to develop and implement fabrication machinery, tools, and equipment for new and existing components utilizing design for manufacturing (DFM) and quick die change (SMED) principles.
Designing dies for changeover commonality (ie. common lower die shoes, common shut heights and strip feed heights, etc.).Use of alignment blocks/pins on bolsters.
Focus on quick die tool change. Includes in die clamping methods (magnetic/hydraulic) and die handling (racks, carts, die splitters, automation, etc.).
Standardization of die set tooling components/design standards (ball lock punches, nitrogen springs, die set bearings, coil springs, etc.).
Hands on operations support to troubleshoot issues.Setup and run new machines/tooling as well as train production personnel during startup.
Develop standard work instructions to insure the safe and efficient utilization of machines and tooling.
Recommend tooling and machine maintenance or modifications as necessary.
Reviews 3D models and prints for accuracy and manufacturability.
Work collaboratively with mechanical engineers including design reviews.
Works with the design engineers on Bills of Material, change management and configuration control of new and existing products.
Ensure a seamless transition from prototype to fully developed products to support steady state production.
Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering required.
Practical experience with equipment, machining, and fabrication.
Hands on knowledge of servo/mechanical/pneumatic strip feeders, strip un-coilers and straighteners.
Experience in designing and/or specifying scrap take-ups/choppers, die lifters (T-slot lifters).
Knowledge of PLC’s, hydraulics, pneumatics, and automation.
Must possess excellent customer service, communication (oral and written), and time management skills.
Individual must be creative, self-motivated, and an independent thinker.
Six Sigma experience (green / black belt) a plus.
Prior project management experience with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously a plus.
Microsoft Office and 3D CAD modeling experience required, SolidWorks preferred.
Aptitude for detail with the ability to work in a team environment required.
Firearm and ammunition experience along with a knowledge of the shooting sports industry strongly preferred.
